Replacing a Cryo Chamber at Spessart Therme

10.07.2026

A New Generation of cryo chambers at Spessart Therme in Bad Soden Salmünster

For many years, Spessart Therme in Bad Soden Salmünster has established itself as a destination for professional whole body cryo sessions. As part of its holistic concept for regeneration, health and well being, cold exposure has become an integral element of the guest experience.

A key contributor to this development has been Michael Weisbecker, Head of PhysioVitamed and WellVitamed. With many years of experience in whole body cryo technology, he has played an important role in continuously developing and refining the concepts behind the cryo sessions offered at the facility.

15 Years of cryo chamber at Spessart Therme

For the past 15 years, guests at Spessart Therme have enjoyed cryo sessions in a -110 °C cryo chamber. After years of continuous operation, the existing system had reached the end of its technical lifecycle. Visible wear, outdated technology and high energy consumption made a comprehensive modernization necessary.

Increasing requirements for energy efficiency and operational reliability further highlighted that refurbishing the existing chamber was no longer economically viable. The projected refurbishment costs exceeded the investment required for a completely new Druschke Cryo Tech system.

Rather than simply replacing aging equipment, the project became an opportunity to introduce a new generation of technology designed for greater efficiency, sustainability and user comfort.

Choosing a New System Generation

Following an extensive evaluation of the available options, Spessart Therme, together with the governing committee of the spa town of Bad Soden Salmünster, selected a new cryoE2 all in one Team chamber from Druschke Cryo Tech GmbH.

The decision was based not only on the system’s technical capabilities and the benefits of working with a regional manufacturer, but also on its fully integrated concept that combines performance, efficiency and user experience in one compact solution.

Unlike the previous installation, all refrigeration and control technology is integrated directly into the chamber. This eliminates the need for external equipment located elsewhere in the building and significantly simplifies the overall infrastructure. Long refrigerant and air duct connections are no longer required.

Genuine -110 °C Through Controlled Air Convection

One of the defining quality features of the new system is its method of temperature generation and control.

The cryoE2 uses controlled air convection to create a stable and genuine -110 °C environment throughout the entire chamber. Unlike systems that expose users only to streams of cold air, the cryo chamber provides a consistently cooled atmosphere that surrounds the entire body.

By continuously controlling both supply and exhaust air temperatures, a homogeneous temperature field is maintained throughout the chamber. Temperature fluctuations are minimized, ensuring identical and reproducible conditions for every cryo session.

For Spessart Therme, this provides maximum operational reliability and consistently high application quality. Every user experiences the full intensity of genuine -110 °C cold exposure, regardless of where they are positioned inside the chamber.

Cryo OS MAX Thermography Screen

Another unique feature is the integrated Cryo OS Max thermography system.

Druschke Cryo Tech is the first manufacturer to provide a system that allows users to visualize the effects of a cryo session immediately before and after entering the chamber.

Using a thermal imaging camera, thermal images are captured before and after each session and displayed side by side. Users can directly observe the reduction in skin surface temperature and gain a visual understanding of how their body responds to the cold exposure.

For Spessart Therme, this technology creates new possibilities for individual session guidance. The recorded temperature data helps operators adjust session duration and intensity more precisely to each user. At the same time, the visual feedback increases understanding of the cold application and enhances the overall user experience.

What was once a purely subjective sensation becomes a measurable and transparent experience.

Installation During Ongoing Operation

One of the project’s greatest challenges was removing the existing chamber and installing the new system in exactly the same location within the existing facility. Our team completed the dismantling of the previous chamber while carefully coordinating every step to minimize disruption to the daily operation of the spa. Following removal, the new cryo chamber was installed, commissioned and fully integrated into the existing application area. Despite incorporating significantly more advanced technology, the available space inside the facility has been noticeably increased.

Operational Results

The new chamber accommodates three to four users simultaneously while delivering substantial improvements in energy efficiency and environmental performance.

Key technical benefits include:

  • Up to 70% lower CO₂ emissions
  • Approximately 50% lower electricity consumption compared with the previous installation
  • Reduced refrigerant usage
  • Fully integrated technology with significantly reduced external infrastructure

According to Nils Jaschik, Managing Director of Spessart Therme, the investment represents a major technological milestone for the facility.

User Feedback

Since commissioning, feedback has been consistently positive.

Users particularly appreciate the noticeably more intense experience of genuine -110 °C together with the chamber’s modern design and overall atmosphere.

By investing in the new cryo chamber, Spessart Therme has done far more than replace existing equipment. The entire cold application area has been strategically redesigned for the future.

This project demonstrates how Druschke Cryo Tech technology not only replaces existing systems but also delivers long term improvements in efficiency, sustainability and the overall user experience.
